Hawaii Solar Videos

Some things are easier to show than to write. Short, honest videos about how solar, batteries, and maintenance actually work on the islands.

What We Cover

Our videos are built around the questions homeowners ask us on site visits, not around product marketing. Each topic also has a written companion page if you would rather read.

Have a Question We Should Film?

Most of what ends up in this library started as a question someone asked on a roof in Kailua or a driveway in Kihei. If there is something about your system you have never gotten a straight answer on, tell us and it may become the next video.

Solar installation: from a design to an operating system

A rooftop installation is one stage of a larger project. The sequence also includes a site survey, design, permits and utility approval, inspection and permission to operate. Understanding that sequence helps distinguish the day equipment is mounted from the day the system is ready for normal use. A video can illustrate the equipment and steps, but it does not establish a completion date for a particular home.

When evaluating a design, connect what you see with your own roof and usage. Panel count alone does not describe annual production, and a clear roof in a demonstration may not have your property's shade or access constraints. The written home-solar guide provides a place to compare the options alongside the videos, especially when preparing questions for an estimate.

Battery backup and service are separate conversations

Battery storage is easiest to understand when capacity, power and selected circuits are considered together. Capacity concerns stored energy; power concerns what can run at one time. Actual outage duration depends on loads, weather and stored charge. Seeing a demonstration of backup operation does not mean every installation can support the same appliances or operate for the same length of time.

For existing systems, monitoring and panel washing answer different needs. A communications problem can make a system appear offline, while dirt, shade or equipment faults can affect production. A service discussion starts with observations and an assessment, not a promise that cleaning fixes every issue. Keep error codes and relevant monitoring information available, but leave roof access and electrical inspection to qualified technicians.
